Dad Win: Power Wheels Tire Upgrade

My kids have been obsessed with their Power Wheels Jeep for years. It never gets old. They ride dirty…

What DOES get old is the tire slippage. They constantly get stuck on grass or a little ledge and you have to help push them off. Check out this easy tire upgrade that makes slippage a distant memory!

You’ll also banks a one in the Dad Win column! Take ‘em where you can get ‘em!

Here’s a close up AFTER the upgrade…

What you need:

  • Bike Tire x 2 - Standard Size. I got mine from the local bike shop. I asked them if they had any throwaway tires. They did and gave it to me for free. Sweet! If you don’t feel like going to the shop, these will work: Bike Tires. (See pics at the bottom)

  • Screws. I used some spare 3/4” #8 Screws. Don’t be too picky here.

  • Drill. I used my Ryobi 18V. This thing has hit the spot for many projects.

  • Heavy Duty Scissors. I used some corrugated metal sheet shears that I had laying around from a past woodshed project. My tires actually had a wire rim so these were perfect. (My son always uses these to cut flowers 🤦🏼)

How To Do It:

  • Cut Bike Tire: The tire starts as a big circle. Cut the tire so that you get a long line of rubber. I used my wire cutters.

  • Wrap Bike Tire around Power Wheels Wheel. Flatten out the tire you cut so that it spread across the width of the tire. Use your drill to put 3 screws in.

  • Continue around the tire, pulling it taught and putting 3 screws every 6 inches or so. Doesn’t have to be perfect.
